Korean Study Tour for Australian Principals and Educational Leaders

Purpose
  • The study tour program was designed to accommodate the increasing and diversifying demands of Korean language learners as Korea's international profile strengthens and the Korean cultural wave "Hallyu" continues to spread.
  • Australian school principals, deputy principals and education leaders are invited to visit Korea where they will acquire a deeper understanding of Korean education, history and culture, and engage in efforts to promote Korean language education in Australian primary and secondary schools.
History
  • As of April 2019 approximately 190 Australian principals and education leaders had taken part in the program.
Host organisation
  • The Korean Education Centre in Sydney hosts the program with funding from the Korean Ministry of Education. A Memorandum of Understanding is in place between the Centre and the Institute of Korean Culture & Education at Kongju National University to run the program while the participants are in Korea
Program period
  • Approximately 10 days usually in April every year, right after school semester 1 ends
Tour venues and contents
  • Ministry of Education, Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education, universities, primary and secondary schools, etc.
  • Venues related to Australia including the Embassy of Australia in the Republic of Korea and the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan
  • Cultural heritages including Bulguksa Temple, National Museum of Korea and Gyeongbok Palace
  • Industry sites including steel and automobile factories

Expenses
  • The principle arrangement is for the participants to cover their round-trip airfare and for the Korean Education Centre in Sydney to cover all inland expenses in Korea.

  • Applications open between September and October every year. Please submit your application form to the Korean Education Centre in Sydney by email.
