The First UQ Korean Day Held at the University of Queensland

Study in Korea Info Session with Korean Cultural events

The University of Queensland (UQ) held its first “UQ Korean Day” on Friday, 17 October 2025.
The event aimed to promote the Korean language and culture while fostering engagement between the university community and the local society.

The program began with congratulatory remarks by Professor Greg Hainge, Head of the School of Languages and Cultures, and Consul Hyunsung Shin from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Brisbane. It was followed by introductions to UQ’s Korean language and exchange programs, congratulatory video messages from current students and alumni, and a Korean language and culture quiz that received enthusiastic responses from participants.

During lunchtime, a networking session was held with representatives from seven Korean companies based in Queensland, providing students with valuable insights into career opportunities and local employment pathways.

In the afternoon, a cultural experience program organized by the Korean Student Association took place at the outdoor stage. The event featured K-pop dance and traditional fan dance performances, hanbok (traditional Korean attire) photo sessions, and hands-on experiences with Korean games such as gonggi (jacks) and ttakji (folded paper slap game), along with various Korean foods. The activities drew great interest from students, staff, and local community members alike.

The inaugural UQ Korean Day served as a meaningful occasion to deepen understanding of the Korean language and culture and to strengthen cultural ties between the university and the broader community.
