– Enhancing Global Awareness through Australian Education and Cultural Experiences –

On Thursday, 17 July 2025, a delegation of 25 middle school students and 5 accompanying teachers from the Cheongyang Office of Education visited the Korean Education Centre in Sydney.

The visit was designed to provide students with a firsthand experience of the Australian education system and culture, helping them develop a broader global perspective and intercultural sensitivity.

Part 1 | Introduction to the Centre and the Australian Education System

The first session began with a welcoming address from the Director of the Korean Education Centre, followed by an introduction to the Centre’s major roles, including the promotion of Korean language and culture. Students were also given an overview of the Australian school system, including its structure (primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary), semester schedules, and assessment methods.

Part 2 | Mentoring Session with Korean Students Studying in Australia

In the second session, a Korean student currently attending an Australian high school gave a presentation on the Australian classroom environment, learning culture, cultural differences, and their personal adaptation journey.
The student captured the audience’s interest by sharing their experiences with the flexible subject selection process, discussion-based classes, and extracurricular activities such as after-school programs and volunteering.

Part 3 | Australian Snack Culture Experience

In the third session, students tasted popular Australian snacks including Tim Tam and tried Vegemite on both bread and chips. They also enjoyed making their own Fairy Bread as part of a hands-on cultural experience.
Additionally, each student received a goodie bag filled with iconic Australian snacks, allowing them to continue exploring Australian food culture after the program.

Through these interactive activities, students naturally embraced the cultural diversity and everyday lifestyle of Australian society.

This program provided students with an effective and engaging introduction to Australia’s education system and culture, offering them valuable insights as future global citizens.

The Korean Education Centre in Sydney will continue to offer such international exchange programs to support the global competence of Korean youth.
