2025 Study in Korea Information Session and Cultural Experience Program

Successfully Held for NSW School of Languages Students


Practical information about studying in Korea provided to support future academic pathways

Hands-on cultural activities enhance motivation and deepen cultural understanding

 

The Korean Education Centre in Sydney (Director: Jiyoung Kwon) successfully hosted the “2025 Study in Korea Information Session and Cultural Experience Program” on Thursday, May 15, 2025. A total of 25 participantsincluding 23 Korean language learners and 2 teachers from NSW School of Languagesvisited the Centre to take part in this special program.

The event was designed to offer local students studying Korean practical guidance on higher education opportunities in Korea and to deepen their understanding of Korean culture through immersive, hands-on activities. The program aimed to enhance students’ learning motivation and foster cultural appreciation.

The session began with a warm welcome from the Director, followed by a brief video presentation introducing study abroad opportunities in Korea. Informational brochures on Korean universities, scholarship options, and exchange programs were also distributed, providing students with concrete and useful insights into Korean higher education.


Students then participated in a series of rotating Activity Stations, taking part in the following experiences in small groups:


-Calligraphy & Korean General Knowledge Quiz: Students created decorative transparent fans using Korean proverbs and quotes and engaged in fun trivia about Korean culture, history, and society.

-Traditional Games Station: Participants played a variety of traditional Korean games such as ttakji-chigi (card flipping), jegichagi (Korean hacky sack), gonggi (jacks), and tuho (arrow throwing).

-Jangmyeongru Bracelet Making: Students crafted traditional Korean bracelets symbolizing health and longevity, and learned about the cultural meaning of obangsaek (the five cardinal colors) through a fun quiz.

All students actively participated in each activity, gaining a deeper appreciation for Korean language and culture beyond the classroom setting.

 

The program concluded with a group photo and positive reflections from the students, many of whom expressed a desire to pursue further Korean studies or consider studying in Korea.

 

The Korean Education Centre expressed its hope that this program served as an opportunity for students to feel more connected to Korea and to seriously consider studying there in the future. The Centre also announced its commitment to continue offering quality cultural and academic programs to promote Korean language education and foster KoreaAustralia educational exchange.

 

Director Ji-Young Kwon remarked, “We believe this visit offered a meaningful opportunity for students to strengthen their interest in the Korean language and develop a deeper understanding of Korean culture. The Korean Education Centre will continue to support the expansion of Korean language education across Australian primary and secondary schools.”
