After-School Korean Program Grants

Korean is a language of growing importance in Australia, and both the Department of Education in Australia and the Korean Education Centre (KEC) are committed to strengthening and growing the study of Korean in schools and colleges.

The KEC will provide $24,000 over three-year to initiate after-school Korean language programs in primary and secondary schools across Australia under the banner of 'K-BOOST Class : Korean Language Boost Class.'

We welcome expressions of interest from Saturday Korean Ethnic Schools or Korean Language Institutions interested in introducing after-school Korean language programs.

Program Overview:

The K-BOOST Class is a three-year program which assists Australian Schools to seed and sustain the teaching and learning of the after-school Korean language by providing financial support.

The financial support commitment will be arranged directly between the KEC and the Saturday Korean language schools (Korean language institutions) responsible for teaching Korean. The contract governing the operation of the after-school Korean language program will be established between the Saturday Korean language school (Korean language institution) and the Australian school leasing the space. Therefore, the KEC clarifies that it holds no legal responsibility for the operation of the after-school Korean language program.

Funding Details:

The program is funded by the KEC. Up to five schools (Korean language institutions) will be selected for funding from Term 2, 2026.

Successful applicants will receive $8,000 annually for three years to sustain their after-school Korean language program. The school should maintain a minimum enrollment of 15 students per term. Annually assessing operational performance will guide decisions regarding support for the subsequent year.

The sponsorship can only be used, for example, to supplement a Korean language teacher’s salary or to purchase any relevant Korean resources, and rental expenses.

Saturday Korean Ethnic Schools (Korean Language Institutions) that wish to participate are required to express interest and agree to the program’s commitments and timeline. The expression of interest should include your school’s plan for the implementation of a Korean language program in 2026-2028.
